Red Poppy Festival Poster Art Contest

This year’s winning artwork is named Valiant, by Emily Latham. Emily has lived in the Austin area all her life and enjoys many different art forms including watercolor, block printing and engraving. The winning piece is an original, six-layer reduction print, hand printed using a single block of linoleum. The material is hand carved to create the relief design. Ink is then added to the surface and a print is pulled. Each color is printed separately as a layer in the print and more of the block is carved away between each color layer. The print was made with oil-based inks and cotton paper.

The posters will be on sale for $5 starting April 5 at the Georgetown Visitors Center, 103 W. Seventh St.
